Do You Really Need A Good Music Teacher
62
Imagine for a moment that we’re back in the days of no road maps, no road signs, no cell phones, and no GPS guidance devices. Now imagine that you’re taking a trip for the very first time from Toronto to New York. It’s possible that you’ll get there, but is it also possible that you may take a few wrong turns that may cause a loss of time, frustration, and perhaps even turning around and aborting the trip?
The same trip today would be much more pleasurable thanks to the several methods of guidance available to us. It’s just much easier than in used to be.
When learning any new craft, or skill, be it golf, planting a garden, or building a house, taking advantage of the guidance and help that is available makes the learning process more enjoyable, the results more productive, and it usually takes less time than trying to feel your way through the learning process.
Learning to play a musical instrument is no different. In fact, trying to learn to play an instrument on your own can become frustrating to the point that you simply give up.
There are few things in life that can bring as much pleasure as being able to play a musical instrument. Perhaps your motivation is simply personal enjoyment. Maybe you want to be the life of the party with your new ability. Or you might even have a musical career in mind.
Whatever your reasons for wanting to play an instrument, it will usually be a much more rewarding experience if you work with a good teacher

- A good teacher is a master of his or her craft.
A good teacher has the best interest of the student at heart
Your teacher has made a study of music and the instrument he’s teaching. He or she, has put in many hours of practice and gone to considerable expense to bring their skill level to the point where they can help you.
First, find a good music teacher. Then place yourself in the hands of your teacher. Follow instructions, practice, practice, practice, and you will not go wrong.
A good teacher can have you doing more in five or six weeks than you can likely learn by yourself in five or six months, even if you practice twice as hard.Anne Deyme is co owner with her husband Don, of Ryson's United Studios of Music. Ryson's is renowned for taking a unique, fun, approach to musical instruction, which is particularly effective with children to young adults.
One of the methods used is to provide the students with regular opportunities to perform in public.
